A compelling and poignant drama about an unlikely friendship between two black youths, one rich, the other poor and the barriers of race and class that threaten to tear them apart. When Tori, an affluent urban teen, befriends Snake, a streetwise kid from Harlem, his concerned parents hire Phil (Annie Golden) to be his Nanny to watch out for him. Soon Snake's older and more dangerous brother emerges and Phil realizes the job is much more involved than she ever imagined. When Tori's father's credit card turns up missing, Snake is blamed. Upset and confused over Snakes's possible disloyalty, Tori searches the city in hopes of confronting his friend. Quentin Crisp also stars as a strangely profound local deli-owner to advise Tori along the way. Eventually, Tori's pursuit of Snake leads the pair into a deadly showdown that not only tests the limits of their friendship, but forces those around them to reevaluate their ownnotions of race, class and the value of loyalty.352 days ago

This half-hour program is a playfully provocative dialogue on sexual philosophy, seduction, romance, love, and the perfect kiss. It interweaves computer animation, stylized drama, and the frank disclosures of four on-camera interviews. Featured are the cool sardonic witticisms of author/raconteur Quentin Crisp, the internationally famous entertainer who first captured the public's eye with his autobiography "The Naked Civil Servant". In amusing contrast to Quentin's quips are the exotic popisms of rock personality SPIDER, the lyricist and percussionist for the South African group Via Afrika. Spider's striking musical and visual talents gained wide notice through her performance with the Artists Against Apartheid on the "Sun City" record and video. New York poet and performer Emily XYZ expresses the youth view with a hard edge. Stage, screen and television actor Joe Morton reveals a family man's perspective. "I have always lived my life in the profession of being." - Quentin Crisp. The widely acclaimed RESIDENT ALIEN chronicles the adventures of cult figure Quentin Crisp, a flamboyantly eccentric Englishman who once pursued fame across the razor-sharp edges of Manhattan. Both actor and chronicler of Manhattan?s Downtown, Crisp and his band of stars, demi-stars and wannabe Warhol Superstars, Holly Woodlawn, improbable sex prodigy Felicity Mason, Sting, and John Hurt (who played Crisp in the autobiographical The Naked Civil Servant) weave a vision of New York that constantly disturbs the boundary between fantasy and reality. Award-winning director Jonathan Nossiter (Mondovino, Sundance Grand Prize Winner Sunday and Signs & Wonders) mirrors Crisp's delight for the unorthodox with an energetic and wildly original blend of documentary and fiction. Together they lay bare the last days of New York?s fabulous Downtown scene and its art world follies.677 days ago
