-+Funny meeting you here
We had a late night at Disney and closed the joint getting back to the hotel at midnight.  Needless to say the munchkin was sound asleep on the bus back to the hotel.  I decided to get up and take advantage of the 24 hour fitness center that the hotel had and I was really pleased with the equipment.  It allowed me to get my full workout in.  While I am running on the treadmill for my warm-up, I see a woman come in with a Tri t-shirt that looked very familiar.  It was a Flag City Tri shirt from the Findlay, OH triathlon.  And I had met her a few years when she had decided to do her first race and have watched her do more and more races.  We talked for a little but and were both on the same strategy, get up, get a workout in before the family was up so we could go around the park and have some indulgences without feeling guilty.  Nice strategy.  It had become my strategy when we walked by an ice cream place last night and I said, “man, that looks good.”  She reminded me that it was free ...
-+Thanksgiving in Orlando
Holidays are always tough for me.  Too much food, too much good food.  So for me, they key is to keep exercising and try to take it one day and one meal at a time.  To compound it, we traveled to Orland this week to see some family and take the munchkin to Disney world.  The exercise is easy when in Orlando because the weather is warm and the family likes to sleep in, so it was not a problem to sneak out for a nice 10 mile run in the warm weather and still be back before everyone was up.  And with all of the walking we will do over the 4 days we are at the parks, the key will be making healthy choices when we need to eat.  I know there are healthy choices, it is just making the choice to pick them and not the other stuff that looks better and is not as good for me.  Not sure if I will get much running in this week unless I am up at 4am so I am back for us to head to the park, so we will see, but this vacation is about the family and not me.
-+Could you run 186 miles
Well, the brother of the Fiji chapters at OSU and Michigan did just that.  About 30 hours before the Ohio State-Michigan football game begins, the two fraternities ran the game ball 186 miles from "The Horseshoe" in Columbus to "The Big House" in Ann Arbor for charity. The exchange between Ohio State and Michigan took place in Findlay, Ohio.  My daughter and I got to see them run through town on our way to dinner.  It was very cool and a great thing for two rival schools to work together for a good cause. -+Snacks on a Plane
8 days ago
I spend a good amount of time traveling and that means a good amount of time on the plane.  Remember the days when you go the free bag of peanuts?  Well as frequent flyers know, those days are gone and the days of having to pay for everything extra are here.  Here is the challenge, unless you were lucky enough to get upgraded or shelled out the big bucks for first class, you are stuck paying ala-carte for something to eat during a flight.  Most of us can avoid this on short 2-3 hour hikes, but on those 5+ hour flights, at some point you get hungry.  Then along comes the wonderful snack cart.  Mini can of Pringles for $5, bag of trail mix for $6?  Not only are these things ridiculously priced, but most of them are not a healthy choice, especially when you just sit there doing nothing on a plane.  So my advice, before you board grab something in the terminal.  Most places now have granola bars or healthier snack options.  You just have to look past the candy bars.  Grab a bag of almonds ...
-+Where are the hidden costs in healthcare?

Well, the brainiacs that designed Aetna’s automatic check system must have deemed it a good procedure to mail me a check for 6 cents that I overpaid.  That’s right, 6 CENTS!  Add to that the postage, the check, the envelope and who knows how many people touched it.  Not to mention the gas it will cost me to go to the bank, stand in line and cash the thing.
