My high school experience lasted from the fall of 1954 thru' the spring of 1958 ~ what remain as my favorite years of Elvis' music - his Sun Records years & his early RCA recordings ~ as well as his first movie, "Love Me Tender". In May, 1956, I was lucky enough to see him for the first & only time in my life...the times he returned to Omaha, the tickets were impossible to get. But there shall always be May, 1956. And so, here's something I wrote a while back dedicated to that time, to those friends of my youth &, of course, to Elvis: "THERE WAS A TIME" There was a time when we were young and the world lay at our feet And everything was beautiful and every grape was sweet And our hearts did laugh so easily as we'd dance away each night And view our world through rose-coloured glass and eyes forever bright. ...
