-+Oh Give Thanks !
Christmas is coming! The geese are getting fat! Oh wait a minute, Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Let's not get ahead of ourselves! Every year families and friends get together with a feast of Turkey and trimmings to celebrate Thanksgiving! Prayers are prayed and toasts are made for being able to experience another holiday of giving thanks. While I am a traditionalist (meaning i love to celebrate too) I am reminded of the importance of giving thanks daily for ALL things, because there are lessons to be learned in them. No longer do I take for granted the people or things which enrich my life! I'm thankful for God and the Power of Prayer. I've tried both and together the formula is awesome! I'm thankful for my health. Ten years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today I am cancer free and living my life to the fullest! I'm thankful for my family. Like all families we have some negatives HOWEVER the positives definitely out number the dysfunctional attributes. I ...
-+Encouraging Words
This week, without a doubt, I'm feeling that I've given out more than the usual share of "hello, how you doing" and encouraging words to others overcoming battles or finding themselves in difficult places or situations.   Monday afternoon I visited with a patient in a local nursing home.  Five years ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The surgery was thought to be successful because the tumor was benign but in the process she lost the ability to walk. She remains hopeful the day will come when she will be able to return home if she can regain the use of her legs. We discovered we share the same name and are both Capricorns. We talked about many things including articles from one of the tabloids on a major film star. She had several additions neatly stacked on a table in her room. Proudly she informed me that her husband brought them to her daily to read so that she would be entertained. She asked what I thought about the papers and I shared with her that the ...
-+Breast Cancer - My Testimony
Seems like yesterday that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Almost ten years later the lingering thought of being a survivor of this disease resides in a small corner of my mind.    Most times I don't bring up the subject but if I am around others sharing their own personal experiences about cancer I am obligated to share an abreviated version of my experience.   During the latter part of March 2000 I sat alone in a cold room waiting for the results of my mammogram which a year before showed no signs of malignancy.   There was no family history of breast cancer so I didn't give a second thought about hearing anything differently. Boy did that soon change!   The doctor on staff, with pale and ashened skin,,walked in and gave me the unexpected news. A lump appearing to be malignant was found in my left breast.   He advised me to follow up with my GP for direction.   Overwhelmed with the shocking diagnosis I immediately made an appointment to visit my GP. He ...

Lord I tell you! This journey to becoming a high demand Writer can take you into some unconventional places! Some may call it the 'chitlin circuit.' That's what traveling the road to success is called when you're struggling to become whatever it is you want to become and find yourself in...like I said 'unconventional places.'   Today I began week 3 of setting up shop at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market in Pinellas Park, Florida. Sounds adventurous? Well actually Wagon Wheel is about 15 minutes away from my doorstep and is open weekly to vendors on Saturday and Sunday from 7:15AM to 4:00PM.   Alice Favors, (another Writer friend) joined me today. Alice previously published book "Poems of Inspiration" was her first self published book. She and I were introduced by another mutual Writer friend about a year ago and we've been communicating on a regular basis every since. Alice creates poetry and has several other genre's in process.   We were situated in space HC46 which ...
-+Xpressions by Barbara J - My Website!
Finally I've created a website! For years I've been asked "Do you have a website?" and the answer was always NO. I had so many excuses or just never took the time to be still, listen and act! Shame on me because I am always the one giving advice! Anyway I have been my hardest critic, now lets move forward !   www.xpressionsbyBarbaraJ.com is an extension of my writing interests. I discovered my poetic gift several years ago and continued to share verses with others. The encouragement has been overwhelming!   There is a plaque on my desk which reads "A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit." (Jonathan Livingston Seagull). I always refer to this quote when writing seems to be 'just something to do.' I am reminded that if my writing gift is to keep growing I have to continue nurturing the talent and believing in myself.   Xpressions by Barbara J can be ordered by calling 727-474-3564 or email bsorey25@hotmail.com Please refer to ...
