The Mayor of Pittsburgh is suggesting that the City implement a tax on college and professional students of 1% of their tuition. As if students had tons of extra money. This is really a silly proposal, as all it will do is depress business tax (e.g. on apartment buildings where college students live) and sales tax revenues -- things that are already taxed by the city. Some are arguing that it's just an indirect way to tax non-profit institutions (which is illegal).
