even though it's still a challenge and certainly a very controversial subject to generate human beings from any type stem cells, apparently it works with mice! two groups in China just reported making mice from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS): one from CAS (State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Biology) published a letter in Nature, and the other from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College made it to the also prestigious Cell Stem Cell. here's the Nature news: Stem cells: Live mice from fibroblast Stem cells induced from somatic cells can be as pluriopotent as stem cells extracted from embryos, research published online by Nature has demonstrated this week. 好久没有(不用快进)看日剧，但是硬盘告急，美剧的质量/空间ratio比较高，于是决定从那几十部存了又没看的日剧下手.............周末两个晚上竟然搞定两部........... bloody monday 才播完的，当时因为被海报上三浦同学的侧面震撼到于是打算看看要不要追，主题是hacker+virus+terrorist+patriot+nuclear weapon(?)........前两集看的我为里面hacking的那一显示屏code欲罢不能想说真是很久没有让我能一集一集追的日剧了结果第三集就没看下去.......不过等完结了一口气看完也还是不错的，虽然播放期间也有剧透无数不过悬念还是有一点的，比较起来的话日本在高科技反恐这个方面和美国的同类剧还是没办法比的，还有就是演员的话........大概普遍日系演员演戏比较用力......更不要说年轻的一代了......倒是佐藤sato君没有我想象中那么糟糕，本来以为特摄拍多了也会演技比较夸张的，这部里面倒还好——当然一方面也是因为他没有什么戏份....... 男一号haruma君的演绎.......也还好吧........毕竟人家才18岁、要求不能太高.....中间有一场哭戏是在看到同学染病即将身亡却仍在鼓励自己的时候，本来是很感动的场面结果我被他突然用手捂住嘴哭泣的乙女状呕到了.....想说你看旁边的女生都没有像你这样啊.........不过临近ending时那个几乎放弃一切静静流下泪的场景还是很加分的...... 回想起来原来整部剧haruma君给印象最深的就是那个海报上的侧面了........ 成宫宽贵的J还不错，那种很嚣张的leader姿态由他演来没想到还不错，然后扮纯良数学家的时候也还比较可信........不过为什么会喜欢喝melon soda啊？！那种颜色很可疑的东西怎么能放进嘴里啊........... 意料之外女一号(?)虽然开始没有很喜欢却是越看越舒服，喜欢她那种慢悠悠一切尽在掌握的态度，还有声音也很性感....... 整部剧最后也算有点意料之外，就在大家都以为东京是要毁在virus手上却没有想到最终boss是nuclear weapon.......其实也没差，反正都是要被毁掉的......orz.... ...

i saw howard young today. the millionaire who suffers from pancreatic cancer, the man who told us two years ago that he would personally sponsor us if we didn't get our NIH funding. he came here today. bossman wanted to introduce me to him, but i ducked.....if it's just about talking, bossman is better at bsing than me. he was only outside our lab for half hour maybe. he and three PIs were just talking outside our computer room. his voice was a little weak, probably because of the chemo session he had yesterday. truth is, i would've felt guilty facing him, because i know i'm not, and we're not doing our best in this project. the way he looked today just reminded of...everything i've been trying to get over with for the past two months. there are hundreds of labs out there doing cancer biomarker research for decades, and NIH funds probablly more than half of them, yet still today we are using CA19-9, PSA, BRAC etc. for diagnosis, which creat false positive or ...
