In June John and I set off to Cairns and Port Douglas for a break. I caught the train up to Cairns with the Subaru on the back so we could drive back - John hates long train trips as much as I like them so he flew up the next day. Next time I must remember eye drops and pressure socks as 30 hours on the train is as hard on the body as 30 hours on a plane.  Dry eye sockets and swollen feet were quickly overcome once I got off and I managed to devour 2 books on the way so I was in seventh heaven. Once I got the car and my bike off the train and set up the bike rack I headed off to the airport to pick up John. We then drove to Port Douglas under a very full moon and it was a beautiful drive. We stayed 3 days at Sabaya Resort - got a good deal from Rydges and thoroughly enjoyed it - was worth taking the bike as went for a few bike rides both here and in Mission Beach and the bike proved useful in caravan parks once we set up. The cost of taking the car on the train is less ...

The fires in Victoria proved to be horrific and the loss of life exceeded everyones’ estimates. Alan and Val continued their trip and followed the fires – however they swear blind they didn’t see any. Last we hear they were in Moe – parking the van on 11 March and heading for Melbourne to fly out to UK next week. A friend at work had some tickets to see Busting Out so another friend, Bron, and I went – we had a nice meal at a Thai place at Albion which we thoroughly enjoyed and then went on to the Twelfth Night Theatre – up behind the Ecca grounds, sort of. It was a lovely quaint theatre, the sort you would have seen at uni in the 70’s – tacky and old but it was airconditioned – otherwise it would have been totally unbearable. The show started off with a stand up comedian and went downhill from there – the jokes were off colour and the humour was just above the gutter – however the delivery was slick and it somehow came over well – it was so horrifyingly awful that I laughed till I ...

John and I went for a drive today - we live in a really nice part of the world and today was a lovely drive. As we drove along I took some photos of the green valleys we were driving through.   It was about 30 odd degrees and we went out in Kermit - out to Dayborough, along Mt Mee Road and onto Woodford where we had a cup of coffee in the Woodford Pub. It is really worth thinking of going back to visit for a meal.   While Victoria burns, NSW and South Australia is experiencing a heatwave. We came home to hear 66 people have died today and the fires in Victoria are probably worse than the Ash Wednesday fires of years ago.   Meanwhile Qld north of Mackay is flooded and expecting more rain - a crocodile has taken a teenager, one crocodile swam past a second story window and one was mistaken for a speed bump.   We live in a lucky country and have some amazing priviledges for doing so - safety, security, surety. But we do pay an amazing price for this.

The last few months of 08 were pretty ordinary. Nothing special happened and we just go on with life. John settled in to working from 5pm to 11.30pm. He had been given a regular shift cleaning the admin offices at the hospital. Apparently being a patient support officer didn't guarantee that you ever see patients. He has put in for a few other jobs with Qld Health and hopefully he will get something different. However he has become quite an adept cleaner and now picks me up on things that I miss. However as I "don't do domestic" I just blame the cleaners. My work has been just the same - no real pressure, just constant and ongoing. I actually like the job I am doing and look forward to work. The people I work with are great and there is no negatives in my work life at the moment. I don't like the hours John is keeping and would like that we saw each other a little more. We had recently commenced going to the movies on Tuesdays and doing stuff - all that went by the ...
