Heart pounding, maddy looked for a split second into his surprised blue eyes, then turned her head and looked away. No. That wasn't why she was there. She felt her cheeks glow, felt the heat rising up from her neck as she walked towards him. He stood up as she came over, a bit uncertainly, and she stopped a moment from him. "Hi." He stepped forwards and Maddy's eyes raked his body before, flushing madly, she forced her eyes back up to his face. "Hello. Are you Madeleine?" "Yes."

Maddy ran out of the toilets and into suddenly glorious sunshine. The sun was high and the ground was already dry underfoot. Maddy's bare shoulders were warm from the morning sun. She ran across the fields to the playground; then suddenly slowed down. On the wooden fence surrounding the playground sat a lone figure, his back to her. Maddy stopped; she stood there and watched him. Even from this distance, she could see his wavy brown hair that softly caressed the nape of his neck. Her breath caught in her throat. As if in slow motion, he turned round, and saw her. Maddy was stunned. He was beautiful.

Maddy cautiously tiptoed round the sleeping forms of her sisters, which isn't easy in a tent filled with three airbeds and three suitcases. Lily, an ironic name given her bright red flaming hair, lay flat on her back, mouth wide open, snoring gently. Maddy sorrowfully resisted the urge to put something in there - she didn't want to be responsible if she choked. Pity, because there was a nice clump of grass right next to her pillow. But, no...  better not. Heaving a sigh at her own thoughtfulness; Maddy unzipped the tent door and stuck her head out into fresh, clean morning air. Behind her, she heard Kitty - the third triplet - breathe deeply and roll over. Maddy held her breath. Kits was always the lightest sleeper. Usually she and Maddy got up together. But today... Maddy smiled. No, today was different. Today Maddy wanted to be alone. The morning sun was already high in the sky when Maddy emerged from the tent. The morning air was cooler outside than in the tent and she rubbed ...
