Congratulations to the PORT LINCOLN CITY BAND for your outstanding acheivements for 2009. The SA Band association has awarded the Port Lincoln City Band with the SA Band of the Year award, and the Bands youngest Vice President, Sonya Lovegrove with Young Band person of the year! But the PLCB didnt stop there... at the SA Great Regional Awards the PLCB was awarded with a hand blown glass pear... the award for the SA Great ETSA Arts award! Outstanding effort, PLCB!

The AGM was held on the 10th of August at the Band room. A Life Membership certificate was present to Ken Lindsay and he was thanked as an outgoing committee member. After all positions were declared vacant the following officers were elected for the executive committee President - Gordon Hartley Vice President - Sonya Lovegrove Treasurer - Tony Carey Secretary - Valerie Staunton Re-elected committee members were Julie Lovegrove and Ann Staunton new elected committee members were Mary Chirgwin, Ashley Anderson, Yvonne Low and Paul Richards Congratulations to you all, our next meeting is the 7th of September, 6pm at the Green Room. The Port Lincoln City Band welcomed 34 Victorian School students with teachers and admin staff last week, with a series of musical events held throughout the city. Port Lincoln City Band was contacted by St Michaels Grammar School’s Musical Director, Chris McGillan, who expressed an interest in visiting Port Lincoln and performing with the City Band. Chris McGillan said, “ I found the City Band’s fantastic website and sent them an email. I received a reply from Valerie (secretary PLCB) who said the band was more than happy to get together with us. From there on we linked in with the High School and after many emails back and forth, we came to Port Lincoln”. A number of activities were planned to exhibit St Michael’s musical abilities together with local musicians. THURSDAY 2ND JULY 2009, 7PM AT THE PORT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL HALL, DONATION ENTRY, ALL PROCEEDS TO THE SAVATION ARMY. ST MICHAELS GRAMMAR SCHOOL FROM VICTORIA ARE JOINING WITH THE PORT LINCOLN CITY BAND AND THE PORT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND IN CONCERT. THE CITY BAND WILL PLAY FIRST, OPENING FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND TO PLAY. THE ST MICHAELS STRING QUARTET, STAGE BAND, CONCERT BAND AND SUPER BAND WILL THEN PLAY. THE GRAND FINALE WILL BE THE COMBINATION OF ALL BANDS PERFORMING AT ONCE. OVER 70 MUSICIANS ON STAGE AT ONCE, CREATING A MAGNIFICANT SOUND AND SIGHT. - NOT TO BE MISSED. Port Lincoln City Band sets sights on the future. Vision for the Port Lincoln City Band has been formed. A great turnout provided for a successful outcome at the Port Lincoln City Band Planning day on Saturday 23 rd May. The Planning day was held to provide members, family and friends of the City Band to have an opportunity to have input into the future direction of the band. The goal of the day was to create a shared vision for the band, and set in place some planning to achieve that vision. The day was facilitated by Sue Olsen, a non biased third party, to ensure smooth and efficient movement of the day. Sue Olsen said, “The degree of involvement was excellent and the people felt comfortable in expressing their views.
