Now that I have the satisfaction of having atleast tried Spaces, it's time to move on. I felt handcuffed by its incompatibility with Firefox, image-unfriendly templates and many other things people already told me but I still wanted to check them out myself :-D   I'm back to Blogspot !

"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini came highly recommended to me. I must confess I'm disappointed. I liked the first half of the book, which paints the picture of a family in pre-Taliban Kabul.I especially the loved the portrayal of child-like innocence and naivete' in the characterisation of Hassan. After a while, though, the story got too predictable, too cliche'd. Ok - so it is set in Afghanistan which is a change from the usual, but how many times have we read about betrayal, bullies, redemption ? Forever? The story IS touching, but it's just been told before. Period. My suspicion that this would end up being another Hollywood movie proved right. It is currently in pre-production, possibly out in 2007.

Some excerpts from Kurt Cobain's 'Journals' that I just read -   Opening page: "Don't read my diary when I'm gone. OK, I'm going to work now. When you wake up this morning, please read my diary. Birds flying back to their cozy little nests, orange and golden sunsets, lush green lawns with delicately standing trees..which remind me of elegant dancers striking a pose, small winding roads with huge, imposing, age old trees...Welcome to the Queen City, Charlotte. Those views are some of the reasons I've come to love a drive around the locality where we live. It's been a beautiful summer here...and fall is slowly changing the city's myriad hues. I can't wait to go on a "fall drive" around the Smoky mountains! Just getting drenched in the midst of a yellow and orange drizzle of leaves, trying in vain to capture the joy of it all on a camera :-)....isn't it strange that every year we have a spring, summer, fall and winter...and yet the beauty is always fresh and new every year! Like a new masterpiece on a fresh canvas.   All this takes me back to Bangalore of the yester years...long walks along the parks on "Nanda road", sometimes with friends, sometimes with ...
