Did you see that!?!?!? August just flew by!!! Here it is Saturday, August 30th...1 more day and September is upon us! Whoooooaaa..where did it go? Well, we have been in school since the 13th of August....Labor Day will be our first holiday since school started. Middle school is going okay...thus far, my boy is in all accel classes and maintaining A's....and he's in band...seems so proud to be playing his daddy's tenor sax. He's also really doing well on reading...I was afraid he would really fight that requirement of middle school. But, as I write this, I can report that he finished a second book by James Patterson...first was "Angel Experiment" and second was "School's Out Forever"...I imagine book three will be finished in about a week. He's moving up the ranks in Boy Scouts too..he's skipping the Fall season of baseball...first time since he was 5 years old. We figured that with middle school, band, Scouts...he needed to let baseball go for now. ...

OK...now..it's official...SUMMER IS OVER!!! YIKES!! My baby girl turned 9 today, she and I ended the summer at Camp Judy Layne (Girl Scout camp). I have to say, I REALLY did enjoy the camp experience. Having not gone as a child myself, it was an opportunity for me to experience camp somewhat like a Girl Scout. The 10 girls we had were a really great group of girls and of course, the 4 moms (including me) were just AWESOME!! The "COOL MOM'S" joined in and had fun with the girls. I hope to post a few photos soon...of my girl atleast. We met a LOT of really great gals there at camp and I hope to keep them as friends beyond camp...of course, I have them on all the popular sites, myspace and facebook and of course the instant messengers. I really enjoyed meeting those 'youngins' and I can say that...because for ONCE in my life, I was actually the OLD FART of the bunch!! As I sit here in my favorite room in my home, my craft room, I glance out the window and see the grass is not green...it's actually almost paper bag brown. The neighbors are watering their flowers, I probably should do the same...the kids are all playing football and beneath the window I can hear one of them getting a drink of water from the water hose. The sweet sounds of summer on a typical Saturday. The sky looks a bit overcast....will we finally see some much needed rain? Of course, our recent trip south makes me realize it could be worse....NC and SC lakes were really low. There were very few boaters out this July 4th weekend, a traditionally popular weekend for boating. It was sticky hot and even in the shade I found myself sweating. The pool was a great relief. Anyway....I sit here and realize that my 'vacation' is coming to an end....quickly!! I've been doing "work" related things all summer, but it won't be long and I'll be REQUIRED to get out of bed just ...500 days ago
OK... let me set the record straight for folks. People (including myself) have always thought that teachers had one of the greatest jobs in the world...heck, who else gets about 3 months off PAID without taking vacation/sick/personal days? Well...the crap that most 'teachers' (let's just say ANY SCHOOL OFFICIAL) has to endure the other 9 months out of the year *NEEDS* 3 months off to keep from going postal on folks. I'm now a fortunate employee of our public education system and while I have been unemployed for 5 years prior to this and I know what it's like to be home with my kids....it IS not all it's cracked up to be. Don't get me wrong. I love... LOVE... LOVE (dare I say it again?).. LOVE... my job but ya know how hard it is to draaag your butt to work after a 4-day weekend? or perhaps after Christmas holidays? OK..so I have like 14 minutes and it won't be June anymore?!?! So let me get this done!! Been busy...actually spent time in the craft room...doing some crafts. Taking it easy for my first summer "off"...as July approaches...I realize that school is just a little over a month away...time to go back to work!!! Yikes!! Heck...time to buy kids school clothes...OMG...I have a middle schooler!!!! OMG!!! I can't believe it!!! Well....let me just share with you a slide show of my latest project... we installed a pond!!
