I am always striving to be a better leader. Not just a leader within our company but a leader within my family and a leader of my own destiny. I discovered the following and thought it was good enough to put here. Personal Leadership is the ability and desire to crystallize your thinking and to establish a specific direction and destination for your own life. It includes the courage, choice, and commitment to move in that direction by taking committed and determined action to acquire, accomplish, or become whatever you visualize for your future. You recognize people with great personal leadership because they: Hold a vision of a bright future Know where they are going Are confident of their journey Are guided by clear values Have purpose in their actions Seek feedback for development Balance work and life activities Take care of themselves ...

The reason I started blogging on this site was not to instruct others on how to improve their lives but instead to learn how to improve my own. My sister and my son-in-law are already helping me in that regard. They read my original "creating happiness" blog and made some really great comments. I wanted to add those thoughts to this revised blog and integrate them into the original philosophy. 1) My sister pointed out that she believes that we will always want more of what we consider will make us happy no matter how much of it we get. It is her hypothesis that the person who is always motivated to improving their life will almost by definition never achieve true happiness. They will always have a feeling of wanting more because that is their driving personality style. I think she is correct. I also think this is the way it is supposed to be. We should always push to improve elements of our lives to improve our happiness quotient and our quality of life and we ...

I see many people in my industry and my company who are clearly carrying around a lot of stress and they always seem to be in a rush. It is not possible to keep up this kind of pace day in and day out year after year. It is not in your best interest and it is certainly not in your employers best interest for you to work at this stress level. In my experience most of this stress comes from too many action items and not enough time. This long list of action items typically comes from the demands of your boss, your co-workers and your customers. Here is the point however. If you have committed to do something or many somethings that simply cannot be achieved in the amount of time available then this stressful situation is completely your fault. You own your time and you own your committments in life. I believe too many of us have forgtten the most powerful two letter word in the english language, the word "NO". Do not fall into the trap of thinking of your job ...

I almost called this entry "Creating Success" but success has a business conotation. Success is just a path to happiness and that may be different for each of us. For some, success can be their own private jet, for others success may be getting to heaven and for still others success could mean raising wonderful children who give something back. For most of us I would imagine that success is a little of all of these things in different amounts. But regardless of how you define success one thing is for sure it does not just happen, it is created. My favorite group is a country band called Sugarland and their incredible lead singer Jennifer Nettles. My favorite song from them is called "Something More". The theme of this song is that there has to be something more than just punching a time clock. My favorite line from that song is: Some believe in destiny, and some believe in fate but I believe that happiness is something we create You best believe ...
