60's Pirate Radio The BBC don't like to admit that pop music wouldn't be where it is today if it hadn't been for the offshore 'pirate' radio stations in the 1960's. They broadcasted pop music, not available on BBC radio at the time, from ships around the British Coast. In those days 3 miles from the coast was international waters, unaffected by UK law. The radio ships usually transmitted on the AM Medium Wave (MW/MF) band whereas the more modern-day land-based pirates use FM VHF wave band for higher quality but over a shorter distance. You can still listen to it now, run entirely by volunteers in the same style as it was from the ship, from a land-based studio (see link below). Offshore radio stations: Radio Nordsee International (RNI). Britain Radio. Radio England. Radio London. Radio Caroline (North ...

Windows Tabs Don't you just hate Windows 'tabs' on pc's? Very confusing when they change round when you click on a row behind (see picture). Software designers got the idea from filing cabinet dividers, but those don't re-arrange themselves as soon as you touch one! (Other photo: a filing cabinet drawer). Places: Uckfield My favorite of Uckfield - the 'Cave' located near the mill, carved out of sandstone. Probably used as a cold to store before fridges. It's very cool in there even with no door on it after a hot day. Andrew is in the photo. Bridge Cottage in Uckfield town centre with me standing in front. It's a beautiful old house. Unfortunately the council removed the garden along with a special tree. Then they ruined the setting further by cramming a cafe in next to it, called the Pepper Pot because of it's shape. Its shape was then ruined by joining it to another building! What a mess. The kitchen on the right of the cottage had an old 'copper' in its fireplace, shame it was removed and that part of the building turned into a shop. The house withstood the floods despite being by the River Uck (see photos of flood). The Mill (I am on the left in this photo). Map link. (R ...

Places: Eridge Eridge has a population of 1 man (and his dog). He is too shy to show his face but likes to show his bottom. Castle (see photo & engraving) which burnt down. A house was built in its place, called Eridge Castle. Caves in Eridge, used as the ice house for the castle. Map link . (R ight-click and select Open in New Window ).
