Sorry about the being absent. I have been in my village for awhile and before that I wasn't around internet to much. I hope that everyone is enjoying their holiday season.I am in lusaka for medical reasons right now. I am not really sure what is wrong with me, but I am feeling better. I have to stay down here till thursday, so that is my xmas plans. Not to exciting, but I just learned that I get to watch the celtics and bulls play today on espn. I can't argue with that.   I am ready to get going home. I have already started clearing out my things. I have a tendency to keep everything. when I was cleaning my hut I found five pairs of head phones that were all broken. I kept these just in case. You donn't want to know how many plastic bags I have kept around, just in case. Plastic, rubber straps, and duct tape are always with me. Just in case.  I mean you never know, cause it is rainy season right now. Also I always line my bags with plastic just in case. their is a fine art to ...

Muchinda Basic 1x3 Classroom block Update   To give an outline on the status of our project, we have currently laid the foundation. In about a week we will have laid the slab. After that we will start putting up the walls of the structure. That will take about a week, we hope to be done with this stage of the project by mid November. This will allow us to complete the walls of the structure before the rains come near the end of November. All the bricks we need have been molded and burned. All materials that we need have been purchased and transported out to Muchinda.   We have had a few set back, causing a slight delay in the project. The first is the cost of cement in Zambia. Due to the unreasonably high price of cement, we had to purchase cement from Tanzania. This caused about a three week delay. The Buildings Officer along with the Procurement Officer who are my main counter parts at the Ministry of Education for this project were in a car accident. Both are ok ...

Terrible things.   You know when terrible things happen like breaking your leg. But you know in the long run maybe its for the best, that’s how I feel about Kevin Garnett getting traded.   Central Sports Teams   To entertain ourselves in Central Province we decided to make up the lineups for teams that we feel we would field if challenged by another Province. These teams include starters, subs, and all necessary coaches. The teams also are set up to field different looks, say if we want to play alittle small ball, or if we want to run with three guards, or if we need to throw out a hands team. For example we have a hitting coach for baseball. The teams that we are able to field include: Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Rugby, Track & Field, Water Polo, Swimming, Diving, Syncro, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Cheer, Spelling, Trivial Pursuit/Family Feud/Catch Phrase, Gymnastics, Netball, and Cricket. We also made up a band with a stage set-up. ...

Making my garden   One day my brother Niko and I decided to go down the dambo (a kind of dried up marsh) to clear a particular area for my garden. We used our hoes a bit, we also used this thing called a slasher to cut down the tall grasses. So we are standing there looking at a pile of grass, so we decide to burn it. Niko who is 17 handles the fire, because in their eyes I am mildly irresponsible. I am relegated to standing with inkondu (6ish) and doug (7ish). So we watch, and Niko starts a fire and it kind of got bigger than we expected.   If you can picture Niko and I now standing on blackened earth (doug and inkondu ran to get the family) with a ring of fire spreading outwards. I was like “Niko is it going to go out?”, and he was like “um, yea.”   So we started working the soil, each of us looking up now and then, trying not to let the other notice our apprehension (the flames were about 10 feet high now). It didn’t go out, and then when we saw 8 family members running ...

Confirmed sightings of Animals while on Safari in Botswana Antelopeish Impala Sable Puku Kudu Red Leche Kitty Lion Leopard Dog Hyena Jackel Reptile Crocodile Monitor Lizard Varmint Stiped Mongoose Monkey Bush Kitty Random Hippo Giraffe Elephant Cape Buffalo Warthog We saw birds, but I don’t really think they count so much. Eagles and hawks are cool, but not the little squirts. Not when you can see a lion or something big like that.
