Students at NAIT's Photographic Technology program are having their 11th annual print sale this week. This could be a great opportunity to pick up some nice photo prints for someone you know, or for yourself. A portion of proceeds is also going to the Stollery Children's Hospital, and you're supporting new photographers, so it's a good deed as well! There will be over 100 prints up for grabs, starting at $35 a piece. The two day sale starts Thursday November 27. The details are as follows: The sale starts Thursday November 27, 9am - 7pm and continues to Friday November 28, running from 9am - 5pm Sales will take place in the South Lobby (near the flags at 106 Street) on NAIT's main campus 11762 - 106 Street. This week, I found out about two new photo-related projects going on online. I have mentioned my personal love for Polaroid before, and with film supplies being snapped up by other instant photo lovers, there have been a glut of Photoshop actions made available to make any digital photos look like Polaroids. My current favourite is "Poladroidizer". Clicking on the link will get you to the website, where you can download the actions. They're really easy to install. Unfortunately they are only available for Macs at this time and you must have Photoshop to use the actions. The results are quite convincing, actually. Here is a shot I took of a glass of lemon soda water, both in it's original digital format and in it's "Poladroided" version (inset). It adds a nice Polaroid frame and alters the colours and contrast a bit to make the image look vintagey. It's all the rage with blog kids these days. The other exciting news is that the now defunct LIFE ...
-+Photo event

Our photo event last night was a resounding success: thank you to all who made it out.  Members of the public mixed and mingled with Journal staffers, photographers, editors, writers and others as they snacked on catering by Bridges and sipped beer from the local Amber's brewery, while they viewed the work on display. One of our regular freelancers, Walter Tychnowicz, was gracious enough to come and work the event, shooting those normally behind the camera. (You can see more photos here in a gallery) Here are some favourite photos: Here's a (very meta) photo I took of the photographers being photographed by Walter...      Which turned out to look like this:   And a nice fish eye shot of the Journal building's atrium (which is really great for this kind of use!) And a shot of freelancer Jimmy Jeong and staff photographer Candace Elliott hamming it up with writer Ben Gelinas. A great night! I'll post more information about the photo contest soon. ...
