Except for the soundbleed and the lack of wireless, the 2008 edition of Bluesfest will be fondly remembered by all who attended. So many bands, such a great site, no massive police presence, not too hot —Americans I talked to were blown away by it. For me, it was a whirlwind of interviews, deadlines and running around. I was on a 10 p.m. deadline most nights, and the mainstage concerts weren’t starting until 9:30, 9:40 or, in the case of Fergie, almost 9:45 p.m. Without a wireless signal across the site, it meant I had to allot for the seven to 10 minutes it took to get through the crowd from the mainstage sound tent to the wireless café. The media room was handy for storing stuff, but useless for filing as there was limited desk space and just one connection to be shared between half a dozen photographers and reporters all trying to file at the same time.
