-+What's ailing AI?
Del Cowie 9 days ago
When Allen Iverson signed on the dotted line with the Memphis Grizzlies, it raised a few eyebrows with many people. When he tweeted on his Twitter account back on September 14th 'I am so looking forward to camp and my quest for an NBA Championship in Memphis!' another few eyebrows were raised. It's his behaviour since that's not been surprising. Having to come off the bench behind OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay, it wasn't that Iverson objected to his playing time.  --many saw that coming eventually. But with the issue surfacing in the first game he played coming back from injury it was already putting his tenure in Memphis on a countdown to an inevitable end. It's a shame because Iverson hasn't seen what other star players, some who entered the league after him have realized. You have to give to get something back in return. Last year, the much derided Vince Carter made a return to Toronto to play against the Raptors and in an infamous result which probably cost Sam Mitchell his head ...
-+Manu Ginobli is...Batman

A few people were underestimating the San Antonio Spurs this year, underestimnating their acquisitions of Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess, but Ginobli is showing he at least won't be taking any prisoners this year.  (Please visit the site to view this media)
-+Video: Lebron James blocks Rajon Rondo...again

Lebron James' amazing block on Rajon Rondo looks like it was the first major highlight of the NBA season. Check it out below. (Please visit the site to view this media)  Seems like King James has a history of doing this to the Celtics point guard. It happened here (Please visit the site to view this media) And here... (Please visit the site to view this media)   And here, too... (Please visit the site to view this media)  Believe it or not, there's more where this came from. Looks like Rondo needs to watch a little more film when playing against the Cavs.
-+Whither the Raptors?
Del Cowie 26 days ago
Tonight sees the new NBA season kicking off with many eyes being on the marquee match-up between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics, while the Lakers will be picking up their NBA rings. Canada's team the Toronto Raptors will be taking on the Cavs tomorrow night, Toronto sports fans, wary of the underacheiving Leafs, Argos and Blue Jays will be wondering if the team can make the playoffs with their overhauled roster. So what's the consensus around the team? Apparently, former NBAer Chris Webber, now an analyst appearing on NBA TV, does not think the Raptors can make it to the playoffs at all. Slam Online predicts they will make a first round exit after posting a 41-41 record. Meanwhile, eight out of 10 of the ESPN pundits (including former Raptor Jalen Rose) think the team will make the playoffs and Sports Illustrated feels the Raps will snag the sixth seed in the East. From what I've seen the Raptors look to be a more athletic and offensively minded team ...
-+13-year-old Canadian basketball player an online sensation
Del Cowie 32 days ago
OK, so it's a little hyperbolic, but there is a fair amount of interest in Andrew Wiggins who is apparently the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and former Olympic Canadian athlete Marita Payne. Wiggins actually plays his basketball in North Carolina for Christian Faith Academy.  Last week, basketball tome SLAM's website said the 6-foot-6 Wiggins was "arguably the best eighth grader in the nation" and he is also being projected as a sure bet for the 2014 NBA draft. He impressed many at the recent ScoutsFocus Elite80 Showcase with his physique and dunking ability as well as his post-up moves and short-range shots. Here's visual evidence of Wiggins in action in a clip that has already garnered over half a million views in just over a week after being posted to YouTube. Looks like there will be more where this came from. (Please visit the site to view this media)
