So many sports questions, so many different answers. That was Kurtenblog Radio last night on TEAM 1040. Who is your favourite NHL player to watch? Who is just killing your hockey pool? Why is Kyle Wellwood struggling? Can the Lions beat the Als? Who is the best team in the NFL? Who was the first wrestler to bodyslam Big John Studd? I'm not sure we came up with a definitive answer for any of them (except for the last one, we're almost positive it was King Tonga), but we had fun and that's all that matters. Thanks for all your texts, emails and tweets, and of course, thanks to our four guests listed below. (For those who've been looking for an RSS feed for iTunes to Kurtenblog Radio, try this and let us know in the comments section if it works.) Hour 1 (Click here for the podcast) --Guest: Jeff Marek from HNIC practically guarantees that Vincent Lecavalier won't be on the Canadian Olympic team. --Guest: Bruce Arthur from the National Post talks hoops, ...Mike Halford 2 days ago
Brough captured the Week 10 honours with an impressive 11-4 mark. To celebrate, he purchased three gold chains, some spray-on tan and a bushel of chest hair. For he is an NFL handicapper extraordinaire. Week 10: Halford 6-9; Brough 11-4 Overall : Halford 78-65-1; Brough 59-84-1 Week 10 Favourites: 6-9 Favourites Overall: 68-75-1 Game of the Week -1 INDIANAPOLIS (9-0) at BALTIMORE (5-4), Sunday, 10 a.m. Maybe it's the horseshoe Everyone knows you have to be good to be lucky, but this is getting ridiculous. Three weeks ago, the Colts needed RB Joseph Addai to throw the winning TD against the 49ers; two weeks ago, they needed Houston's Kris Brown to shank a game-tying field goal with no time left; last week, they needed Bill Belichick to make the worst decision since Sarah Palin for VP. Not to say Indy doesn't deserve its 9-0 record, but when does the luck run out? Looks can be deceiving The Baltimore D is surrendering 17.1 ...Mike Halford 4 days ago
This is the post we write in the grips of Gamblor's neon claws. All sports betting lines are courtesy the good people at Sports Action . NHL Tonight: Washington (1.90) at New York Rangers (1.85), Tie (5.45) Lots of storylines for this one: Alex Ovechkin's expected return after missing six games to injury, the Caps visiting MSG for the first time since beating the Rangers in last year's playoffs and an opportunity for Sean Avery to share his thoughts about Bruce Boudreau's physique. Again. "He told me I was the biggest, fattest bleeping pig he had ever seen," recounted Boudreau in his book. "He told me I was fatter than bleeping Ken Hitchcock. He told me I was going to die because I was such a fat bleep." What a bleeping bleep. But can we really expect another profanity-laden tirade from Avery tonight? Not according to Larry Brooks, who recently called out Avery for being quite, uh, un-Avery this season. ...Jason Brough 4 days ago
We'll be making a list every Tuesday in the print edition of The Province. It might have 23 items, it might have three. We don't like to pigeonhole ourselves. This week's list goes out to Kyle Wellwood and his one assist in 17 games. Welly's not the only NHLer off to a slow start. Here's a bunch more who need to pick it up. Martin Havlat (Minnesota) When Marian Gaborik bolted for the Rangers, the Wild signed Havlat to a six-year, $30-million deal. For good reason, too. The 28-year-old Czech put up 29 goals last season in Chicago and was named the Blackhawks' MVP. So far in Minny, Havlat's scored twice. But at least he's playing well in his own end. Oh, wait, no he's not. He's minus-13. Vincent Lecavalier (Tampa Bay) For $10 million a season, the Lightning are going to need more of the Lecavalier who scored two goals last night against the Coyotes and less of the Lecavalier who scored two goals in his first 17 games. Or, if he's not planning on ...
