-+Run off the Road in North Carolina
K Benn 363 days ago
Good Sunday from North Carolina, rain soaked North Carolina. On our call to QMFM on Friday I was boasting that it was 70 degrees and sunny after they told me it was a typical Vancouver morning, filled with low clouds and heavy rain. Yesterday we woke up to low hanging clouds and heavy, with even heavier rain this morning. Luckily we’re on a rest day and sheltered at another KOA, so all’s not too hard to take. What was hard to take yesterday, and for the last 4 days, are the crummiest roads we’ve run on to date. We thought parts of Manitoba were tough because of no shoulder, and NY and Jersey because of heavy traffic. However, the last few days have had us on ZERO shoulder with the added bonus of people driving cars and massive SUV’s not used to making any room for 2 runners. Yesterday was by far the worst though, as it was raining, as well as Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Saturday 1st day of the Christmas season craziness out here on U.S. Route 17 South. We were forced over to ...
-+Climate Change

By Chris Tilley   I s our climate changing and is humanity causing it? The answer to both is a definite yes. The IPCC, International Panel on Climate Change has agreed that climate change is occurring and that humanity is causing it. The IPCC was setup by World Meteorological Organization and by the United Nations Environment Programme. The panel consists of many scientists from all over the world. The reports are then approved by representatives of all member countries. These reports are very scientifically determined but with many governments involved it is on the conservative side.(source ) I am planning a series of articles based on the IPCC report and up first is describing their story-lines. As a basis for their scientific inquiry they developed four general story-lines for the Earth over the next hundred years. There are also some alternative story-lines related to the four major ones. These control the variables that they use in there climate models. Below is a ...
-+Fair Haven School's Bulletin Board
K Benn 363 days ago
We’re proud to share with you the remarkable work of Fair Haven School’s Grade 3 teacher, Mrs. Seely’s bulletin board that’s right outside her classroom. The students are tracking where Run for One Planet are running on the board and checking back to our website! The board is beautifully designed with our photos, quotes and tips for environmental change. The board will serve as a daily reminder of our message to the children that each of us has a role to play in cleaning up the Earth, while keeping them actively involved in our progress through the run. Their enthusiasm and support for Run For One Planet is second to none, and we thank Mrs. Seely for doing her part in instilling healthy environmental habits into these children at a young age. Remember that you too can do something! Taking the time to commit to just one environmental action can be even more fun when doing it with your kids. Get them involved in the process and you’ll find it’s so much easier to ...
-+Go Green or Go Home

So, who would have thought that someone else running a marathon would change MY life-doesn’t seem to make sense huh? But it is true and I will tell you just how. One beautiful fall day in October as my friend & I were parked on the front street of our little border town an RV pulled up and parked infront of us. At first  we continued with our wrap up conversation post lunch but then my friend realized that it was not just  any ol’ RV that had parked there but The Run for 1 planet RV and as we took a glance in the mirror here up the “quiet” front street of St Stephen came Stephanie Tait & Matt Hill. My friend Melissa said we have to get out & talk to them & wish them well. We hopped out & quickly greeted them. Melissa had heard / seen an interview with Stephanie & Matt on breakfast television. As we stood there talking to Stephanie & Matt about their  journey and how they came about their decision to embark on this year adventure you could see the energy ...
