-+The Quest for the Holy Grail: Vancouver hosts Chicago on HNIC
Jeremy Knight 344 days ago
It's been a season that started out optimistically, and will only continue to have that sort of feeling, with the acquisition of Mats Sundin to the Canucks already dangerous offensive scheme. One night after Trevor Linden's number 16 was hung to the rafters, news came in that one of the top Swedish players in NHL History will be venturing out west, in lieu of the Broadway spotlight. The 18-11-3 Canucks aren't going anywhere, as they and the Calgary Flames are in a battle for first place in the Northwest Division.  A win tonight, and Vancouver regains the lead that they have held for so much of this 2008-2009 season. Leading the way have been Daniel and Henrik Sedin, who combined have 60 points.  Daniel has 14 goals and 18 assists, a good mix that helps him lead the club in Points and Goals, while brother Henrik has 4 goals and 24 assists, which gives him the team lead for the latter.   Mason Raymond, Alex Burrows, Jannik Hansen, Kyle Wellwood, Ryan Kesler and Pavol Demitra all ...
-+How Swede it is: Mats Sundin becomes a Canuck
Jeremy Knight 344 days ago
The last 7 days for the Vancouver Canucks may have hosted some of the more historic moments in Canucks history.  First, only the second jersey in Canucks history to be retired was hung to the rafters, after the Canucks faithful paid homage to Trevor Linden.  Secondly, less than 24 hours later, one of the most famous Toronto Maple Leafs of all-time has become a Vancouver Canuck, ending a 5-month saga filled with drama, and a never-ending deadline that finally ended. With 1321 career NHL points, to go along with 1065 PIM in 1305 games, Mats Sundin has been an offensive threat throughout his entire NHL career.  He has had over 72 points a season, except for two seasons, his rookie year and the lockout campaign of 1994-95, where in 47 games he racked up 47 points. In 9 playoffs seasons spent between two different teams, the Quebec Nordiques for one, the Maple Leafs for the other 8, Sundin has 74 points in 83 games, impressive considering it is the post-season. For Team Sweden, ...
-+'7th man' shows up for Canucks, and lifts them to victory over the Oilers
Jeremy Knight 399 days ago
It was a big night for both the BC Lions and Vancouver Canucks Saturday night, and fans across the city were able to celebrate at the end of both games. The Lions defeated Toronto, and Vancouver crushed Edmonton. The Canucks have been criticized for their lack of Special Teams play this year, sitting 14th in the Powerplay department, and 22nd on the Penalty Kill. Canuck fans didn't have to wait long for a goal early on Saturday night, as Mason Raymond came up with a PP goal on a 2-1 rush, 1-0 Canucks 3:25 into the game. Fighting last season, was sort of an after-thought for the Canucks faithful, but this year, it has been nothing short of common.  Last night was much of the same, with Rob Davison taking a chance at fighting Steve MacIntyre, and I'd give the edge to MacIntyre after he took down the newcomer Davison. Later on in the first period, Vancouver had some more golden chances with the man advantage, with both Mattias Ohlund and Kyle Wellwood missing the back of the net, by ...
-+Injuries, slumps and losses; Canucks hope to change the tide at home
Jeremy Knight 400 days ago
A season that started out with so much optimism, so much hope, has become just another season, for the Vancouver Canucks. After a 2-0 start to the season, with back to back wins against Calgary, the Vancouver Canucks were making all of GM Mike Gillis' trades in the off-season, that much more rewarding. There was just one problem.  After the Season Opener in Vancouver, the Canucks had to deal with a 6-game road-trip, to stops such as Washington, Detroit and Chicago, not to mention Calgary. Things started off great, with a 5-4 Overtime victory in Cowtown, thanks to Pavol Demitra's overtime winner.   Vancouver then lost to Washington, 5-1, on Canadian Thanksgiving, for their first loss of '08-'09.   A great game on October 16th, saw Jannik Hansen score his first NHL goal, and Alex Burrows continue his scoring touch, as he netted the OT winner.   The win in Detroit might have been the best game of the season, so far, in my opinion.  Hansen, as I mentioned, had a goal and could've ...
-+No need to panic, Canucks 2-1 to open campaign

Times were great for Canucks fans, heading into Monday night's affair with the Washington Capitals.  Not only was Vancouver's team 2-0 to start the year, but both wins were against arch rival, Calgary.   Thursday's opener was a showing of the 'sluggish' version of the Flames, before they were ready for battle on Saturday night, in front of their home crowd.  A 6-0 score was no longer the case, as Calgary and the Canucks, fought until Overtime.   With Calgary leading 3-1 after the first frame (a Sedin connection getting credit with Vancouver's lone marker), the Canucks proceeded to tie things, with Rick Rypien's second of the season, and Ryan Kesler's opener of '08-'09.   Mike Cammalleri gave Calgary a 4-3 lead going into the dressing room, but Daniel Sedin's second of the game, left things tied at 4, going into OT. A beauty, 2-1 rush between Alex Burrows and Pavol Demitra, gave the Canucks the full two points, in a feisty affair.  Demitra's first as a Canuck, was a proud ...
