-+Great Tips - Valentine’s Day for Singles
Melanie Carr 280 days ago
You’re single and it just so happens to be the most romantic day of the year. Instead of throwing yourself a pity party this Valentine’s Day be proactive and create a day for yourself that doesn’t involve a box of tissues and a chick flick. Why not: 1. Gather your single friends and throw an Anti-Valentine’s Day party to celebrate your autonomy. Nothing heart-shaped or cupid-themed. Any other day, this would just be a party but today singles gather to celebrate freedom from the drama associated with romantic relationships.  2. Remember that Valentine’s Day celebrates love, not just romantic love. Do something special for your loved ones. Try baking your great aunt a batch of sugar cookies.  3. Go for dinner with a close friend. Sure you will be overcharged and bombarded with the sight of red hearts, roses, and the occasional, tacky proposal but at least you can enjoy a good meal and great conversation.  4. Try to remember you don’t ...
-+What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
Melanie Carr 299 days ago
Recently I journeyed a little further from home and took a much needed break to Las Vegas for the weekend. I flew out of Bellingham Airport in Washington State since packages from here were about $200 cheaper per person than flying from Vancouver. My girlfriend and I booked a room at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on The Las Vegas Strip. The hotel was a little dark but lovely. The only issue was that the hotel was undertaking some renovations which prevented the fountains from functioning and caused a strong paint odour in the lobby one afternoon. Our room was in the pyramid so it had a slanted roof making it quite spacious. It also had a perfect view of the sunrise. We had already been to Las Vegas before and had made the tourist rounds to all of the hotels on the strip. This time we wanted to relax and get the real Vegas experience. We had met some friends there so one day we took a ride to a secret location in the biggest SUV limo I had ever seen. This limo was huge and it fit ...
-+Delhi 2 Dublin Remix CD Release Party at The Red Room
Melanie Carr 365 days ago
Fusion music at it’s greatest. Delhi 2 Dublin put on an intense performance at The Red Room last night for their Remix CD Release Party presented by Beats Without Borders. The diverse crowd was treated to a blend of east and west. The group consists of five members who each bring their own style and culture to the music. The group’s disparate instruments include a tabla, violin, dhol, and electric sitar. The instruments mixed with electronic beats, Celtic sounds, and Punjabi lyrics makes for a unique sound. In an apparent effort to not limit the group’s genre, Delhi 2 Dublin even mixes sounds from Reggae, Hip Hop, Break-beat, and “Drum n’ Bass”. What seems like potential for a mish-mash of noise is transformed into a perfectly synced, absolutely beautiful and amazing sound unlike anything I have ever heard before. The audience couldn’t help feeling the beat in their souls. There wasn’t a motionless body in the crowd. The vigorous violin playing was absolutely phenomenal. The rate ...
-+Twilight - a modern day love story with bloodthirsty vampires
Melanie Carr 366 days ago
Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the advanced screening of Twilight. Twilight is based on a best-selling novel series by author Stephenie Meyer. The movie reveals a complicated, star-crossed, modern day love story between a teenage girl and an eternally teenage vampire. Bella (Kristen Stewart) moves from Arizona to be with her father in Forks, Washington when her mother remarries. Bella’s life looks like it will be anything but exciting until she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy who seems quite different. Bella is disturbed by his initial reaction to her which leads her to confront him. As she discovers that Edward’s differences are more than skin deep, her curiosity gets the best of her and she discovers an Aboriginal legend that reveals the Cullen Family as vampires. The Cullen family members are “vegetarian” vampires meaning that they only drink the blood of animals but Bella’s aroma and Edward’s desire to taste her blood may be too much for him to ...
-+Getting ready to be a party animal
Melanie Carr 386 days ago
Several of my friends are at my house right now getting ready to go to the big Halloween party at the Commodore. It is a sold out event.  I am a green alligator. It was actually a child's costume I picked up from Superstore and then altered. The pink flamingo and the zebra found their's on the internet. The peacock's mother made her's and the cheetah found her costume from a number of places. Watch for pictures here soon.  My designated driver, Stephanie, is getting us there and home safely. We've grabbed our party hats and blowers and we are ready to go.
