For those of you who have me added on Gtalk, you must have seen for 90% of the time my status is the title of this post. The rest 10% of the time , its either my office name or the latest in the series of flus I have (stomach or common, thankfully nothing related to pigs). I am often asked by friends what the above means, see it goes like this, Something smart here means that there should be a smart and witty status message in my Gtalk status. And come to think of it, it itself is something smart, isnt it :P , Deep I know :) Anyway, if I ever am able to publish the book which I pen down in my free time, I am sure I will some sort of permutation of the above title. --------------------------------------------------------- Moving on then. "Rain rain go away, Little Johnny wants to play" -> "Rain rain go away, Little Ankit wants to drive to college and actually reach there" Today was always going to be one of those days, I had reserved today as a study day for Artificial Intelligence. But things seldom go as planned. I had to make a trip to college today, I remember waking up at 9am and dad telling me to take the metro due to the rain, I said to myself, it isnt raining too hard, plus I will leave at 10:30 and will go after the office rush. Here is how things unfolded : 1. Leave home at 10:30 am, dropped mom off so that she could take an auto and was on my way on the Outer Ring Road. There isnt a lot of traffic today I said to myself. 2. 10:45, Already near Vasant Vihar, cool, good progress and I pat myself on the back. 3. 10:55 , Hits the Vasant Vihar Crossing, huge pileup of cars there. Heard from a 4th year CS Engineer in a premier Indian engineering college about another 4th year CS engineer of India in a premier Indian engineering college: This guy was doing systems programming, he assembled and linked the .asm file after copying the code from his neighbours. Then he asks : ".exe file toh ban gayi, how do I run it" (translated : The .exe file is made, how do I run it) And imagine that he assembled and linked it via dos prompt going into the assembler's bin directory to use the assembler executables. No comments from my side :(

This is a self reflection post. Here in Office, everyone has the communicator syndrome. What that means is that you ping the person sitting in the Cube next to you instead of getting up and going to talk to them. Technology does make us so lazy. Infact I have even emailed people in the cube next to me. Anyway, I will be spending the next 2 weeks alone in the Livemesh team without any other interns :( , all my friends completed their work this week and are going back to their respective colleges. Other news, Today was the longest call I have ever made to Domino's pizza, the lady on the other end couldn't understand Hindi and spoke very broken English :(, probably said some stuff to me in Telegu (hope I didnt get abused in Telegu as that would be a first). Anyway, I wonder if my pizza will ever reach me :) , I spent a good sum of time explaining that my cellphone is from Delhi and she will need to call me via another cell phone or STD phone. Anyway, hope I don't have to sleep ...

Hi, for those of you who dont know, I am an intern with Microsoft. So the disclaimer : All posts here are my personal opinions only, nothing here can be taken to be the views/opinions of my organization in any circumstances. Now that that is out of the way, lets talk about life here : This is the first time I am staying away from home, so this is indeed a new experience for me. Staying in Hyderabad and actually working in one of the best companies in the world sort of expands your perspective. You can see really how challenging it is to run big companies, where every small detail needs to be taken care of and is taken care of. Working here is a blast , especially with the free beverages and snacks (free gym is also included BTW). Also worth mentioning is our super cool campus. It houses 3 branches of Microsoft India, I work at the IDC (India Development Center). I work in the LiveMesh Team (which is a great team with great people).
