Basic Neuroscience – Why do we need to Know? What is the latest research about brain and behavior? How can you use this knowledge in your daily life? Have you ever wondered why psychotherapy works (or not)? Did you know that one goal of therapy is to link different parts of the brain together (called “neural integration”)? YES – this can help you work through trauma and get unstuck. Our brains develop around our experiences. For example, if you were exposed to music then parts of your brain are wired for music. What happen if you were raised in a stressful environment? Do thoughts really cause things? What does early intervention mean and how can it help your child? All of these issues will be discussed with my in studio guest, Holly Miller , Pasadena psychotherapist ( www.hollytherapy.com – free DVD!), Tuesday at 1:00 PM on KPFK, 90.7 FM Streaming live on the web at www.KPFK.org Dr. Nita Vallens

Why vote? (let me count the ways….) Did you know that only about ½ of eligible voters have voted in federal elections? In 1960, it was 63 % and in 2000 only 51.3 % voted (Harris & Allen, 2003). I believe we must vote to exercise our right to do so and we need to also lift the veil of secrecy around how our votes are processed. If you saw the recent documentary screened last week on HBO, “Hacking Democracy”, your eyes have been opened and you may be wondering, “Why bother?” The documentary pointed out that the computers that process 80 % of America ’s votes made by three main companies are easily tampered with in a way that cannot be traced. Individual counties across the country pay millions of dollars for these systems. If Bev Harris had not discovered the FTP site of one of the companies, the secrets of how these machines operate would still be a secret (Hacking Democracy, HBO, Oct., 2006). In her book, “Black Box Voting”, Harris asks, “What would the founder ...

A special two part Halloween Show for you includes: Jane Hersey, author of “Why Can’t My Child Behave?.” She will be discussing the Feingold Diet and how to keep kids “food safe” on the holiday. Do you know why teachers call the day after Halloween the “worst day of the year?” YOU think it’s the sugar or the excitement – wrong answer! Ms. Hersey says we should read the tiny print on the candy wrappers and look for numbers. It is actually the synthetic food dyes that trigger behavior problems in children, including hives, swelling and respiratory problems. Also, we will have Richard Salva, author of “Soul Journey” sharing his method of uncovering hidden past life clues from the costumes you wear on Halloween. Or, is it deja vu? Mr. Salva calls himself the “Reincarnation Detective” – do you believe you have lived before? After 30 years of research, he will tell us what reincarnation is and what it is not. Today is all about fun with your calls!! Dr. Nita ...

I have been studying this book and realize that the term medical science is an oxymoron. What I mean is that it is clear to me that medicine is an art, not a science. (Just try to get a medical doctor to admit that one!!). The detailed research in this book will turn many of your accepted and conventional ideas or beliefs about women’s health completely upside down and hopefully get you thinking and dialoguing with others, men too! Some of the areas to be discussed on today’s show include: How have women unwittingly accelerated the aging process? What are the ramifications of delaying pregnancy? Can staying up late cause you to gain weight? Are we aging faster than previous generations? Is it true that you can’t fool mother nature – what does this mean? What did the work of Charles Huggins really say about hormones and cancer? Is the trade off for living longer, aging faster? Please join me today at 1:00 pm (PST) on InnerVision when my guest T. S. Wiley ...
