-+Highway 65 Rock Slide Aerial Photos
Some new aerial photos of the landslide or rock slide that blocked Highway 65 in Tennessee were posted last week by WTVC Channel 9. This was the landslide caught on video that I posted about previously. TDOT officials have awarded a $2.1M emergency contract for removal of roughly 30,000 cubic yards of material and rock bolting to help stabilize what’s still hanging on the slope. They expect the work to take about 8 weeks. (Photo by Dennis Hutcheson from WTVC Website)
-+NASSPA Website Has New FAQ on Steel Sheet Piles
1 days ago
The North American Steel Sheet Piling Association (NASSPA) recently posted a FAQ on steel sheet piles to their website. A few example questions: What is steel sheet piling? What are the advantages of hot-rolled sheet piling? What is a cofferdam? Is sheet piling a "Green Product"? How long is sheet piling rolled? Are interlocks waterproof? And much more interesting and useful information. (Photo by Flickr User RiCarr)

Tunneling Business Magazine has a very nice cover story on Obayashi Corp, a well-known Tokyo, Japan-based mega-construction company with some impressive tunneling credentials.  In their 30-years of working in the US, they were the first to use an earth-pressure-balance tunnel boring machine in this country, they worked on the Washington D.C. subway in the 1980’s and a few other projects that I’ve blogged about previously on GeoPrac.  (Photo of Seattle’s Beacon Hill Tunnel, from TBM Magazine Website)
